Hey y’all ☀️
Last week my sister Hannah joined me to talk about some good beginner seeds & plants to grow this year, and this week I wanted to share some of the economical ways I’m growing. I wanted to share my growing space with you but it’s currently covered in 6 inches of snow so that will have to wait!
I posted a few videos on Instagram and I believe you can watch them from this link without an account. (Let me know if you can’t?)
The first two videos in the carousel are yours truly, showing you some things I’m using. The last three are examples of what I found this week at the thrift store (but surprisingly had the restraint not to buy).
A quick list:
A milk jug cut in half to make a mini greenhouse
Biodegradable, plantable seed pots from Dollar General
Cute little pots from the dollar spot at Target
Recycled plastic fruit & veggie containers from the store
Toilet paper rolls, which can be planted straight into the ground - great for plants which don’t like root disturbance
A watering jug I found for $3 at a thrift store
A big shelf to put in front of my south facing patio doors
Some gardeners I’ve learned a lot from that you may want to resource:
Just a couple more weeks til Lent! Tell me in the comments: have you decided what to grow? What questions or anxieties remain? How can I help? 🌱
Next week I’ll share some of my favorite reads from past Lents, and I’ll do a patio tour in my stories if the snow melts. 🙃
Talk soon,
Janette x
I love this so much. While I don’t have a place of my own or any semblance of stability in this season, I am living vicariously through you. This is offer a helpful lens for when I get to participate in this process in the coming months. Maybe I will be planting in autumn.
I get such little sunlight (I face west) that I bought a home kit and have grow lights. It's all still sitting in the box. Hopefully, I will get motivated soon....
