Hello all,
And just like that, it’s February and Lent is just days away.
I shared with paid subscribers that the last few months have proved difficult but I’m on a course toward feeling better and generally more hopeful. Kansas City is feeling more and more like home all the time, and I’ve just started my first round of seeds for the garden. My energy levels are returning, as is my creativity and desire to write. I hope to put those things to good use here soon.
A few months ago, I had the idea to create printed zines (mini magazines) for Lent, and I’m excited to share those with you now! I’ve written six short reflections on the parables of Jesus. I’ve chosen parables which I think give us food for thought on the idea of home; what makes a home when we use the Kingdom of God, our “eternal home,” as a guide?
Christian communities often reflect on what’s known as the now and not yet Kingdom of God, and this language helps us remember that two things are true. We anticipate the new creation, and our lives right now can give us glimmers of the fullness of redemption to come through the goodness all around us. This series explores that now-and-not-yet reality as it relates to feeling and being at home.
What could it mean to be home now, and not yet, in a way that embodies the presence of God?
These are available in two different formats: I can mail you the set of six mini-booklets (as seen in the Instagram reel above) for $15, or I can send you the link to the digital files for you to read/print yourself for $8. Reply to this email or DM me on Instagram if you’d like to purchase a set!
Each week throughout Lent I’ll post further thoughts about these parables and invite your participation in the comments. It means so much to hear how these reflections sit with you, and I hope you’ll join other readers here to share your own wonderings and ideas.
In the meantime, I hope you have delicious plans for Shrove Tuesday!
Thanks as ever for your support of me and my work. If you know someone who you think might like these zines, would you please share this email or my Instagram profile with them?
Talk soon,
Janette
