Mm mm mm! Same thoughts running through my head reading this as when I saw Trump’s response to the bishop’s address—if the gospel isn’t challenging you, then you’re missing the point. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Thank you for this, Janette. So needed. “I do not have to choose between those migrants and my children when deciding who to love. As a Christian, I can’t.” 👏🏻
…I cannot do everything. And my output will be determined by seasons of life and the needs of my immediate community.” 🤔 . You’re sorta saying the same thing here as Vance. Which is also expressed in the tension between subsidiarity and solidarity.
Hi Katie, thanks for engaging with my post. I acknowledged that Vance is right about that - I can’t care for my children and care for strangers in the same way. The distinction I’m trying to make is that this doesn’t work as an excuse to care less for others; instead that love and care looks different. And, I challenged his claim that his sort of concentric circle interpretation of care is Christian. If that is how he would like to do things, fine. But I don’t think he can accurately say that is a Christian value.
Wise and truthful words in an often disorienting time as a follower of Christ.
Lord, guide and direct our actions to be agents of love to all. Show us how we can act and give us the courage to do so.
Thank you for reading and for being my friend. I still often think “What would Mendy do…?” 💗

The gospel does not often pass the vibe check. 😂

I’m so glad you’re here, Sage!! Thank you for reading.
Thankyou Janette for your integrity, courage and faith and determination to stand up to power. May you be blessed.

Love to you Sue. My courage is in part built on the courage of friends and mentors who show me the way, you among them. x
